COSMETOLOGY

The Cosmetology Department offers programs in Esthetics (Skin Care), Hairs Design, and ESL Hairstyling (English as a second language).

Esthetics (Skin Care)
Esthetics (Skin Care) is one of the fastest growing industries in North America, and the industry in British Columbia is no exception. To fill this demand, City Centre graduates students twice yearly. Those completing the seven months of training are prepared to take the examination of the Cosmetology Industry Association of BC.
The Hair Design Program
Hair Design is divided into three levels and is 10 months in length. Students attend for 36.5 hours a week for a total of 1500 hours. The first level of this program is designed to cover all core aspects of the industry on a progressive scale, demanding an increase in competence at each level. The next three levels are specifically designed for the student to complete their chosen course of study.

Theoretical knowledge and practical training are covered in such areas as client relations, men's and ladies haircutting, permanent waving, shaving, hair colouring, hair and scalp treatments, facials and manicures, and disorders of the scalp and skin. Salon management, bookkeeping, reception and desk functions, and business services are also an integral part of this program. Upon compliance with the necessary regulations, students are prepared to sit the examination of the BC Cosmetologists' Association.
The ESL Hair Design Program
The ESL Hair Design program is designed for students who need language assistance to obtain a City Centre Certificate and complete the requirements for the Hairdressing or Barbering Association. English Language training is integrated throughout the program.

The ESL Hair Design program is divided into three levels and is twelve months in length. The first level of this program is designed to cover all core aspects of the industry on a progressive scale, demanding an increase in competence at each level. The next two levels are specifically designed for the student to complete their chosen course of study.
